CWRU Motorsports Competes at Midnight Mayhem
In the first week of October fourteen members of the CWRU Motorsports Team traveled to Louisville, Kentucky for the first competition of the year. Although this competition was not SAE sanctioned if featured many of the same elements of competition. We brought our two most recent cars, "Model C" and "Model D" to race with 90 other cars from teams around the country. Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties with our rented transponders, we do not have official results from the endurance race but all of the drivers agreed that the car performed phenomenally out on the track course against the other teams. Overall it was a great learning experience for everyone from veteran members to our great group of newcomers. We are very excited for what our team is going to be able to accomplish in the upcoming season.
CWRU Motorsports Leads Homecoming Parade!
On the Saturday following Midnight Mayhem, the CWRU Motorsports team took to the streets of Cleveland to lead the Case Western Homecoming Parade. Since the "Model D" was in the shop for a few repairs from the previous weekend, "Model C" called upon to pull a trailer carrying several team members. Overall, the event was a great time for everyone involved and the team was cheered on by all of the parade watchers.
Record Setting Weekend for CWRU Motorsports in the California Desert!!!
In April, the CWRU Motorsports team returned to Gorman, California, the site of 2016's May competition with our new car "Model E". "Model E" is an iteration of last year's car "Model D" but with improved rear suspension and drive-train and brakes. The competition got off to a great start with 6th place finish in sales and a 15th place finish in design. Saturday featured the team passing brake check on the first try and the team moving on the dynamic events acceleration, hill climb, and maneuverability. The team finished 14th in acceleration, 29th in hill climb, and an all-time best 6th place in maneuverability. With the dynamic events completed it was onto the grueling 4-hour endurance race on Sunday. "Model E" cruised its way to a best ever 4th place finish in the Endurance race by completing an impressive 34 laps! At the end of the competition with all the scores tallied up CWRU Motorsports finished 9th overall and cracked the top 10 for the first time in the history of the team. We will get to be car #9 at the first competition next year for our record achievement this year.
CWRU Motorsports finishes 2017 Season with a Bang
The CWRU Motorsports team traveled to Kansas in May for our second and final competition of the year. Model E continued to turn heads by finishing 6th in maneuverability, 11th in acceleration and 14th in suspension. The team rounded out the dynamic events with a 48th place finish in sled pull. Around noon on the third day of competition a severe thunderstorm rolled in and shut the competition down for the remainder of the day. Torrential rain flooded the endurance course for the next day. That evening, all the teams prepared themselves the best they could for the mud-bath that would follow. However, a little bit of mud was not nearly enough to slow Model E down. Tyler Eston and backup driver Mantas Naris combined to complete an impressive 35 laps of the track which was good for an 8th place finish in the endurance race. After every team's scores were calculated from the weekend, CWRU Motorsports claimed 8th place overall! This marked the second ever top-ten finish in the team's history. Kansas surpasses California as the new best-ever overall finish. The team is extremely proud of its accomplishments for the year and we are looking forward to reaching even greater heights in 2018
